What would cause the effects in the pics of this morgan?
You can see the weakness of the stars on the left-obverse:

1900-P-Morgan:-Weak-Strike?-Wear?

The date sticks out, looks like high relief, and the tips of the digits facing the rim are sticking upwards (see next photo for more detailed look of "sticking up"):

1900-P-Morgan:-Weak-Strike?-Wear?

The tips of the characters/stars/digits/wing on the left side of the obv and rev appear to stick up. Almost as if the coin was struck a bit to the right, causing the tips to stick up:

1900-P-Morgan:-Weak-Strike?-Wear?

When you flip the coin to the reverse, "United" looks weakly struck along the rim, coincidentally, the weak stars are in the same position of the coin on the other side:

I'm officially hooked on Morgans.

I see what you mean in the stars but the coin definitely exhibits wear. Some traces of luster remain but has all the trademarks of an XF40 coin IMO.

I'm guessing it's a die-alignment issue.

I'm curious...to pursue a hunch, how is this Morgan on weight--close to the official 26.73gr weight?
When viewed edge on, does the coin show any signs of tapering from left to right?

My scale is weighing it in at about 26.74-26.76g. What specifically would I be looking for when looking at it from the edge?

I just wondered if it were a tapered planchet, but it's not like I have any expertise with Morgans.
