Someone thinks it's an ultra-rare "No-S" filled-die 1909-S VDB....

They think it's a Proof. Look at the other items the seller is offering - among them a complete 1894 Proof set, in pieces, and two simply tremendous Capped Bust Dimes.

It's said there were only 420 (or 1194, depending on who you ask) 1909 Proofs with the VDB initials. This coin has nice granularity in the fields, and a plainly strong strike. It certainly could be one of those 420 (only about 150 have ever been certified), and as such it's a $10,000+ coin. A PR64 went for over $16,000 at Heritage last month.

Honestly, if I had a $kilobuck to risk, I might have taken a chance on this one.

Depends. I figure MS64-65RB if it's a business strike, and a value of $75-100. If it's Red instead of Red/Brown, that goes up some.

If it's a Proof....the sky's the limit.

The amazing ebay. And there was 30 bidders. Just to much money out there somewhere.

Those weren't very detailed (or large) photos to 'bet' $809.01 on...

That said, you couldn't rule it out as being a Proof (at least, based on those small pictures).... The rim looked possibly wide enough. The toning looked somewhat similar to some (better, larger) pictures of early toned Matte Proof Lincoln Cents...

This guy has been selling off this collection for some time now. Quite a collection. His grandfather is probably rolling in his grave.
