I am considering this coin to complete a capped bust type set but I was wondering what the experts think of the reverse. Is it a strike thru, planchet defect or PMD?

Looks like a planchet defect to me, probably a lamination flaw. That raised blob of metal at the end of the scroll may be some folded over metal from the lamination.

I believe it is a lamination issue. I've seen it multiple times before on bust half dollars, seems to be a very uncommon thing. Kills eye appeal for serious collectors, so they never get a premium.
Suffering from bust half fever.

Yep, lamination issue. For a type set I'd look for one without that.

Thank you folks for the input. If I were buying this for my personal collection I would go for a better grade problem free coin. My type set is already complete with VF or better examples. I was looking at this for a lower grade VG set for my wife's collection.
