Had been holding onto this penny debating what to do. I have read all the articles in this forum about other metal wheat pennies. Of all the articles that I have read the coins all basically had white metal faces.
The strange thing about this coin is that it weighs out at 3.12 but I can not calibrate my scale at this time.
Around the edging of the coin it looks silver or another white metal. Even on Lincoln's face you can see the white metal coming through.
It even shows on the reverse rim as well.
What is most confusing to me is why some would go through the trouble of putting a copper plating over a white metal. Even looking at the small gouges it is white metal deeper into the coin.
Figured I would ask for help from vastly more experienced eyes.
Thanks for taking the time to look.

@buf, since the weight is right about at mint spec, I think that this likely is just a normal cent. You could do a specific gravity test to confirm it's copper.

.01 g over the average weight of a cent - I would call that normal. It could just be some weird toning or environmental conditions caused that.

Hmmm ... I'm not seeing any white metal on the obv or rev.

Can't give you any definitive answers from those photos . As mentioned it would be best for you to do a specific gravity test to know the true composition of the coin .
