The year 1985 saw New Zealand move back to the Arnold Machin portrait of the Queen. Circulation coins for 1984 and 1985 were minted in Canada and done to a low quality standard, that lacked much detail of the Queens effigy as you can see. All denominations were minted, but I am missing the 10 and 20c The Dollars were minted in Australia and we got the high quality, high relief effigy of Her Majesty. Still it was strange as Australia and the UK had switched to the Maklouf effigy in 1985. The dollar was nice, pukey beige surround less so. Australia issued its 2nd MOR dollar and all the coins but the 5c, 20c and 50c. The dollar and the copper is common, the 10c is ultra scarce apparently. Along with the 1972 5 cent coin, the 1985 10 cent is one of the gems of Aussie circulation pieces that are not errors, mules or NCLT.

As Princetane said, the UK adopted the Maklouf effigy in 1985. The £1 coin that year bore the Welsh leek symbol, and was notoriously weakly struck: by the time the nickel-brass £1 coins were withdrawn in 2017 many were already in Fair/Poor condition! Uncirculated UK 1985 £1 coin: Typical 1985 £1 coin from circulation in 2016: Belize issued one of the most dull commemorative coins ever in 1985: Republic of Guinea 1 Franc: Zambia 50 ngwee: France 10 Francs commemorating writer Victor Hugo, whose best-known work is 'Les Miserables': Hungary 10 Forint: Finland 5 Markka: Cabo Verde 1 Escudo: Fiji 1 cent: Finally a set of coins from Tuvalu in their original Royal Mint packaging:

Yet I just love how you find these obscure coins though Mexico coins of 1985 I must be going blind as I originally thought this coin was 1987! Juarez was Mexico's first and only Amerindian President (Fully Amerinidan not Mestizo like most Mexicans). 100 Pesos with Venustiano Carranza, a typical early Mexican President who was of "Blanco" ancestry (White). What was interesting, was that by 1985 - they had coins from a 20 centavos showing Olmec culture up to the 500 Pesos showing Morelos and in 1987 or 1988 a 1000 Peso coin showing Juana de Asbaje was added to the line up. The rest of my 1985 is more inflation coins! Up to around 1980 Turkiye had a relatively stable Lira and the coins were huge stainless steel ones (I will show them in the 70s) yet by 1985 the inflation was starting - the 5 and 10 Lira coins shown are aluminium (1974 in comparison had a 5 Kurus in that metal) and the 50 Lira was a cheap steel like thing. As you know the inflation would get MUCH worse.
