Hi everyone, I just acquired this 1907 rupee from a dealer's melt bin. While it may be Fine to VF in terms of details, it looks as though it has been cleaned at one point.
It sounds of sliver, it exhibits some ghosting from striking, and it weighs 11.55g. Also pointing to authenticity is the die break extending from the rim through the date. These features all point to the piece being real

Now for the weirdness of this coin - just what is going on with all of the lines extending to the left off of the letters of the words "King & Emperor?" Is this some kind of damage from cleaning? Could this coin have been whizzed so intensely that these lines are all scratches from the mechanical tooling?

At first glance, looks like a trail die issue--perhaps...

I have to say, I don't think it's genuine. The reverse inscription looks very sloppy, and the difference between the blurry portrait and clear sharp obverse lettering is quite stark.

ijn1944 & John1 - Thanks! Interesting to know!

Sap - Good points! I was a bit on the fence about this coin all along, but the weight, the metal, and the presence of the very small "B" in the crown (usually lost in impact transfer or casting) tipped the balance in my view. (Also the portrait on these 1902-10 Rupees was notoriously poorly struck). However, I bought it for very little. So, I don't have a whole lot invested in this coin. If it is spurious, do you think that it could be a modern fake or possibly a contemporary counterfeit?

I'm thinking not real also...I'm not sure what minting process would produce lettering like that.
