I was just wondering about what resoures are needed to run an online auction site. I ran into a software company that will set up an " ebay" style auction site for $6-8000 dollars, there are some that are probably more expensive, maybe some cheaper.

But from a hardware point of view, I am sure that my laptop just wouldn't do!

What is required, investment wise, to create, maintain, and operate an online auction site? I know a local company in Texas found a niche by starting an online auction of surplus school district supplies (since public schools are required to put things up for public bid). Included everything from kitchen equipment, office machines, desks, lawnmovers, buses, trucks, u-name it. Now they have expanded to include lots of other businesses other than schools.

If I had a niche market...what hardware, etc would be required to get up and going? I am not a computer guru so need input from more knowledgable folk.
