A piece of sticky-tape, perhaps?

Looks like the coin might have been taped to something for a while before being removed; the surface under the tape oxidized differently to the surrounding area.

I've seen this on many coins also one on ebay if I recall all good I'll agree to this.

That does look like tape was placed against the coin to secure it down to something?
