Yokozuna Pillar of the Community United States 4618 Posts	Posted 08/15/2022 10:05 am It's not extra metal, just the normal metal of the planchet that has filled in some damaged areas on the reverse die. I can't match anything up as a die clash, but it could be Die Dents or some other type of damage to the reverse die, but it doesn't seem to be a clash. I tried this Photoshop overlay with different angles and positions, but nothing looked correct. Here's the overlay. As you can see, this would be the in the deepest part of obverse design. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 08/15/2022 11:32 am There is only the same amount of metal. When the coin is struck, it copies what is on the die. No extra metal is added. (Just an incuse mark on the die, leaving a raised area in the coin) The only time there is extra metal is when part of the die, or something extra in the chamber adds it to the coin during the strike. Most often it falls off of the coin, and leaves an incuse area on the coin where it fell off of the coin. Same weight in on the planchet, same weight out on the coin. Report this Post to the Staff
