Hello,

I was wondering about using gloves when handling BU and Proof coins. More specifically what to use. Currently I'm using the disposable non-latex and non-powder gloves from Walgreen's. I got those because I wasn't sure if the latex would hurt coins and that powder is just annoying. Are those OK or should I invest in the cotton gloves? Opinions?

Thanks,
Rich

Gloves, be it latex or nitrile or another kind, are best to use with coins without powder. The glove material will not hurt the coins but obviously powdered gloves could be a problem. Some people prefer cotton gloves but IMO that is just a personal preference. As for myself, I usually do not wear gloves when handling coins as I have pretty good tactile sense but I also wear nitrile gloves at work for most of the day. If I am handling multiple proof coins, I have been known to slip on a pair of cotton gloves though.

I notice the "expert" on TV, Jimmy Gertsel (sp?) never uses gloves and he handles "bu" morgans like candy.

Lol Jimmy "The Saint" Gerstel, I watch his program for a couple minutes every few weeks for a good laugh.

I use white cotton gloves whenever I am handling my Uncirculated or Proof coins.

And if you watch "Bewitched" she vanishes right before your eyes. On a Perry Mason show the detective Paul Drake had a coin in his pocket that was supposed to be worth a fortune. Almost spent it in a restaurant.
What I mean is don't handle coins like they do on TV.
