I'm getting a 1890-s Morgan in ms-62 tomorrow my local dealer is holding for me. It appears to be housed in a PCGS 1.2 holder. The coin looks a bit undergraded by todays standards but I was very intrigued by the holder. Are these slabs collectible? I am buying the coin but am interested in the slab as well being an early one.

Yes those slabs, which are called rattlers by many people, are collectible in themselves. I am not a slab expert but don't believe Gen 1.2 is a high dollar piece of plastic in itself.

Rattlers are highly sought after and worth a premium.

A ton of them have been cracked and upgraded.

It is possible however that it was already submitted for upgrade and/or CAC and didn't make the cut.
