I found in my pocket after receiving change from a sale.
To my surprise the coins made a funny sound in my pocket.
I pulled them out and I had a nearly new quarter that looked like a quarter on one side and the opposite side looked like a new penny.
My question is, is this common or a very rare event? My wife has it stored somewhere otherwise I would load images. It looks like it came from the mint that way.

I'll upload pictures when my wife gets home.

Thank you

to the CCF!

It sounds like you may have a quarter with a missing clad layer, not a lamination.

If you can get pictures of both sides and a weight in grams, we may be able to tell for sure.

Can't be a lamination issue as the quarters are clad.
Possibly missing a layer of nickel but clear photos of
both sides are required to verify.

@JimmyD you can still have lamination errors on clad. The nickel layer is an alloy of 25% nickel and 75% copper while the copper layer is 95% copper and 5% zinc. If the alloys are mixed improperly, you could get a lamination the same way you would on any other alloyed coin. Doesn't sound like what OP is asking about, but very possible all the same.
