Best thing? Virtually uncirculated 1969 Australian 50c. Worst thing? About three days in bed from food poisoning.

I had a really odd experience with a vending machine once. Me and my mom have a State Quarter map going on, And when we were walking by a soda vending machine, It suddenly, for no reason, Shoots a coin out about two feet across the floor. I pick it up and its a Hawaii State Quarter, The last one we needed for our State Quarter map. Yeah, its a common quarter, but it was still weird, I had never seen a coin "fly" out of a soda machine before.

I used to use vending machines to look for coins for my collection, by cycling through the change in the machine in question.

OK that one really shocked me. I've seen vending machines for many different items but this one is just way to scarry. As to vending machines. In a building I used to work there was a box on the wall for losses in their vending machines. That box was aways full of papers with names and amounts. Mine was in there all the time. Most of those things just take, take, take, take, take, etc. Those old coins you may get probably were put in there 20 years ago by someone in hopes of getting something to eat or drink.

I guess this counts for this thread. Two years ago a friend I work with owned a vending machine company with her husband and when they ran across any nickels older than 1958 they would save them for me. Sometimes a Buffalo nickel would be in there. At work I would quickly look at the dates and then take them home to be sorted later. One time when sorting there was a 1937 Buffalo nickel. I turned it over and it was a three legged variety. I thought this has to be a counterfeit. In a couple of weeks the ANA show was close to me so I took it there and had ANACS look at it. They said it looked authenic so I submitted it. The coin came back authenic graded VF cleaned. I took it into my friend and told her the whole story. She took it home to her husband and we agreed to sell it and split the money. That is probably the most valuable circulated find I will ever have, but I am still looking. Jaobler, I like error coins but the 3 legged buffalo is not one that excites me. IMO it's an over hyped die polishing error. That's why it was sold. The quarter you found is fantastic! What a keeper!
