Trial Mint Coin(1906) Of A 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle

jack789 New Member 3 Posts	Posted 08/29/2022 04:49 am Hi, I recently stumbled upon a possibly very rare coin so would like to know if someone else stumbled on something like this. So this is the Saint-Gaudens double eagle 20 and the design on the front and the back is the original one from 1907. But the year engraved is 1906. This is due to the fact that the coin is produced in a trial run in 1906 before officially releasing it in 1907. I am familiar with the rare 1933 coin but has anyone else here seen or heard about something like this 1906 trial mint or knows something about this coin? Thank you. Report this Post to the Staff

sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 08/29/2022 05:40 am The only thing I could find on a 1906 pattern Double Eagle is a privately minted one ounce silver round. Totally different designs, both sides. I have also found a privately minted One Ounce St Gaudens designs both sides, silver round, with the date 1933. This design was not produced until after the high relief MCMVII coins. It is a stretch to think that the mint could produce a later design BEFORE it existed. kbbpll Pillar of the Community United States 4233 Posts	Posted 08/29/2022 10:55 am I'd guess it's a straight-up counterfeit and they thought they were evading the law by making a date that didn't exist.
