I think the answer is folks can *try* to sell something at any price. After all, there's a sucker born every minute. That doesn't change the fact it still only worth a few cents.

agreed, sellers will try to mark up and 'hype' up the coin in order to get somebody to buy it, thinking it is rare.

Yes, worth a few cents in well-circulated condition. Would need to be MS-60 or higher to be worth more than a dollar.

charles42,
Is that an asking price or did it sell for hundreds?

Sometimes people will list their items at ridiculous prices far beyond their true value on places like ebay and Etsy so that can be one answer to your question to not judge values only by the listed prices shown. A solution for buyers is to check ebay's Sold items from completed listings to see what prices they actually are being sold for instead and auction sold listings such as heritage auctions, great collections and others. Here is a free way to check ebay recent sold listings without doing more advanced research on sales. https://adirondackgirlatheart.com/s...ld-listings/

There are high condition examples that get graded and can sell for good amounts far beyond what is shown here, but your typical circulated example is common so the value isn't very high. You can read this for a little added info https://www.coinstudy.com/1943-penny-value.html
