Does anybody collect them? I know Terry does. I have a question regarding their finish. 2006 Niobium is advertised as proof but the previous years are uncirculated versions. Can someone please confirm.
Thank you.

Thanks Shatsi,
I did a quick search myself and found this:

seems that more elements are used as coin material than I thought.

Thanks for the info shatsi....I must admit I had not heard of that term (Niobium Coins) before. Thought for a minute that a new country had been formed...lol

I think the only country that managed to use Niobium is Austria and Austria has been minting such coins for other countries. One example that I can think is Latvia but I am not too sure if any other countries ever did use such metals.

The Austrian $25 Niobium coins are being released this year (4th year) and have sold out very quickly each year. They are, for the most part, highly sought after and increase in value as soon as the sell out is announced (go figure)! The amazing thing about Niobium is its color can be controlled during the heat process so we have had a blue, green and purple (my favorite) in the last three years. 2006 brings us a beautiful golden brown and mine are due in here today or tomorrow!!! For those of you that may be interested you can probably still get one out of Canada through EuroCollections.com (I believe that is right) and you will be looking at around $65 per coin with shipping! Hey let us know if you jump on the bandwagon!!!

Well approximately 2 hours after making the above post my mail carrier came to the door to deliver my Austrian Niobium coins. It was nice to add to the set but I am not as impressed with the golden brown as I was the purple of last year! None the less my collection continues!

Shatsi you will really LOVE the purple as it is most unique!!! The other two coins, when sold on ebay, are bringing around $100 to $125 each unless you are fortunate enough to find a better deal. Good luck with your hunt!

Oh no you don't! I'm not even going to go and look at these coins, much less start thinking along this line.
Nice try, but it didn't work!!!

This time.
