Yes, no crown which is unfortunate. The profile is only slightly less flattering than the one posted by SPP.

May 6, 2023 sounds like the day Charles gets crowned.

Quote: Yes, no crown which is unfortunate. Historically, a royal portrait was released in both crowned and uncrowned forms, allowing the colonies and dominions to choose which style they preferred. George V was uncrowned in Britain, crowned pretty much everywhere else; George VI was mostly uncrowned, except for a few of the smaller colonies; likewise, Elizabeth II's first (Gillick) portrait. The second (Machin) portrait of Elizabeth II was the first time the Mint issued just one option, adopted everywhere. Quote: May 6, 2023 sounds like the day Charles gets crowned. That's the date they've announced, yes. Given how quickly The Royal Mint released the portrait, we should certainly have Australian coins issued with his portrait by then. Probably by January 1, if not even earlier.

I wonder if they will continue making 2022 dated coins with QEII into 2023 to cover circulation needs and account for people saving the last year of her reign's coins until they can gear up for a 2023 release with Charles III. Since he was King as soon as the Queen died, I don't think they need to wait for a Coronation ceremony to start the coining process.

I wonder if other places like Canada, Australia, etc will have the first 2023 coins being the queen for a limited run then go right on to King Charles III in the latter half of the year like how the Britannia's are doing?

RAM and RCM will mint 2022-dated QEII coins into 2023 -- if necessary. I am also fairly certain we will see CIII circulation coins rather sooner than later. Technology has advanced and CIII has already approved an effigy for the UK.

That said, will the other realm countries feature the same portrait of the King as the chosen UK design? In the past I have noticed a bit different effigy's on the coins in the realm.

The King could reign a very long time and still never approach the number of coins out there with his moms effigy.
