Picked up another half eagle recently at auction. I bid on a second coin as well in an attempt to make the CA sales tax exemption threshold of $1500 but didn't get that one. So, California got their pound of flesh this time. I hate that.

Nevertheless, the coin is OK. How does she grade? FYI, the overall color of both sides is closer to that of the reverse photo. The obverse in-hand isn't that orange-looking.

Likewise. I had large purchases sent out of state to save on taxes. Then it was Christmas when I visited and had packages to open.
Suffering from bust half fever.

NGC has it at AU-53. Could have gone 50 or 53 I think. There is too much wear and not enough luster for consideration at higher grade.

Wear-wise it looks EF40 at first glance, but it might be poorly struck. In that case, it could certainly be mid-AU with very little actual wear. The rims are in nice shape.

i think they weighted the obverse higher and went with the 53. its ok, it could have went either way. I'm ok with it at 53 and I'm betting you are as well
