I am thinking about restarting my coin collection after a long hiatus. It's always been one of those on and off again hobbies for me. My bills are caught up and I'm feeling the itch for it again.

True! I've tried looking at several drugstores for a lotion that might help me but without any luck.

here is what ive learned over 50 years if I was starting again depending on my long term goal. first, am I buying to collect and possibly complete a series or am I buying for appreciation
if my goal was both then
1. I would buy key coins in the highest grade I could afford 2. I would buy common coins in average circulated condition for the lowest price I could find as they fill a hole and the likelihood they will increase in value is slim 3. I would store the key coins in air tights. (i dont slab) and store them in an area with no light or humidity
if I was buying for just appreciation then I would eliminate #2 pretty simple
good luck and welcome back...I've done this a couple times over the 50 years and probably most collectors have

Every coin you buy should come with the surgeon generals warning: These metal discs have been known to cause addiction! Good luck pursuing your collecting interests again!

Collecting is like a drug, if you have tried it at least once, then you will not get rid of addiction.

My advice would be to take the time to truly learn about whichever coins you decide to pursue. I've found a deeper knowledge about the coins in your collection leads to a longer-term enjoyment of them vs. a purchasing activity that seeks to "fill holes."

I mainly collect Canadian coins. I just ordered the 2022 edition of the Charlton Guide to Canadian Coins. Might pick up the latest Haxby as well. Modern US coins are just meh.
