I bought this from Grover about 45 years ago. Supposed to be one of the 1961 restrikes from the original dies. Think I paid 12.95 for it. Good thing I had a paper route. If I have this post in the wrong place, please move it. Wasn't sure where to put it.

to the CCF Grover was quite the entrepreneur, promoting southern currency, in particular. He was my second favorite colonel, after Sanders, that is. These restrikes fall under the category of exonumia, and they sure do speak to those tumultuous times in American numismatic history. They make for fine conversation pieces, nowadays.

I do believe at one time I had a book he wrote on Confederate currency. One of many books ruined in the 2007 flood.

Interesting for sure. I'd pay $12.95 for it, real or not simply for the conversation.

Quote: I do believe at one time I had a book he wrote on Confederate currency. The 4th edition of Criswell's "Confederate and Southern States Currency" reference was the first book I bought on the topic when I started collecting Confederate currency. I now tend to rely on Fricke's references more often, but still use Criswell's now and then.

These restrikes were made in several alloys including silver, "goldine", copper, and possibly platinum. If I recall correctly, some were made in "fiber".

I think he may have had a few of the silver ones advertised but they were more than I could pay.
