Candian 25c 1991 - Denticle Variety.

David Graham Pillar of the Community Australia 1610 Posts	Posted 09/30/2022 7:28 pm Hi all in the land of maple syrup and all things maple, I recently purchased the RCM 6 coin set for 1991. Numista lists two varieties based on the reverse denticles. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces351.html Without comparative images, I'm at a loss to know which variety I have. Can anyone provide a link to the image or post an image of the two varieties? Alternatively, do you know which variety was in the year set? I don't think there is a difference in the denticles, the difference is in the narrow or wide rim. Numista needs a coma between rim and denticle. Note the 1993 is narrow rim beads. Beads don't get narrower. Rims do. Another coma needed. You didn't say which set you got. Proof or PL. The Proof set should be the wide rim, the PL most likely narrow rim. And they both have denticles. That's how I read it. Cheers Mate. Edit, I missed the "6 coin set" earlier. So you have the PL/Uncirculated or the Specimen set. David Graham Pillar of the Community Australia 1610 Posts	Posted 10/01/2022 03:03 am @Loonie - Yes, not the Proof set. It was a set in the cellophane type wrapping so I guess the PL set. Pardon my ignorance, what does PL stand for Proof-like? Interesting that you mention PL as I recently requested some changes to Numista for some Canadian coins that were listed as Proof but weren't. When I checked out the RCM website they made no mention of Proof or Proof-like, nor were such words used on the packaging from RCM. Proof-like seems to have been applied to the coins by dealers. To me, they were simply UNC or BU. Do Canadians tend to call BU coins Proof-like? Your comments do make sense and that's a real possibility. I find Numista a great site but I wish the refs wouldn't accept varieties without uploading accompanying images. They also have a scary acceptance that KM is God and if listed in KM it must be correct. Report this Post to the Staff

PL (proof like) sets stopped a while back, but the handle just stuck around. I pulled my proof set and my circulation example. Definitely wide rim on the proof, and I have a good pic of it. Narrow rim on the circulation, but it's in a flip and is not being very photogenic. Maybe natural light will help later. So ya, I think you're looking at different rims, not denticles.
