Are all Kennedy half dollars supposed to have the ridges on the side?

Ridges on the sides? do you mean the edge? then yes they are called Reeds or reeding. or a reeded edge just like dimes and quarters.

Coins are not stamped, they are struck. All coins that are struck have a collar that forms the edge. The collar is reeded for the half dollar coins.

The reeding has been removed after the coin left the mint.
You can't have a half dollar struck in collar without the reeding.
It would be a damaged coin ( PMD)

It looks like somebody gently took a grinder to it and removed the reeding. Sometimes folks call it a Dryer Coin or that it was spooned. But the rim is not raised or thinned out to much.

It might have spent some time in a casino (slot machines).
