This was a raw coin that I considered purchasing this morning. Ended up selling for $5,027. I liked the coin but it had some rim issues. One in particular at 3 o'clock seemed pretty deep so I didn't bid. The coin appears to be VAM-2 with the tilted mintmark and appears to have the right markers.

Thoughts? Thanks!

If I was spending the $$ for a 93S I would not be happy with the rim dings on this example.

I'm at VF-20 details (cleaned, rim damage). I think you made the right decision to let this one pass by.

I agree the rim damage is too severe to straight grade it. Wait for a problem-free example and be real careful buying this date raw, counterfeits abound.

Rim damage is one of my "I just can't get past it problems" good to avoid it IMO.

Not a coin I'd be happy with at all no matter the date and mintmark.

Frankly I thought that this coin had very attractive surfaces and was nice overall but for the rim issues. I was therefore surprised to see the comments that it looked like it had been cleaned. Can you clarify what you are seeing that indicates cleaning? After all these years I still seem to struggle to see those indications. Still learning every day.

I looked at many other coins at similar grades and those seem to have the white, washed out cleaned look. This one seemed so much nicer in terms of its surfaces than many others I looked at.

As an example for comparison, here is an NGC VF25 example in a straight holder that looks comically cleaned to me. The coin in this thread seems so much nicer in appearance. If you click on the image below it enlarges it.

I am not seeing the cleaning on this. Surfaces look nice and original. I think it is attractive. VF Details - Rim Damage
