Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have looked at Netherland Ducats and Gibralter Knights, but this is what it finally boils down to.

I have finally made the decision as to which series of 'dark side' coins I will be attempting to collect. The decision was based on the following reasons;
First, the series can be collected starting way back in the time of the Regent of Antioch's time of 1112 to 1119, right up to the current time period. It is available in a number of countries and it's design is what ties them all together in the series. It is available in both silver and gold starting back in England with Henry VII in 1526, and any number of English coins since 1817. The current design is by Benedetto Pistrucci and has been minted continuous since his design was accepted in 1817. It is most often minted in as a Sovereign or pound. It also comes in the half-sovereign and 5 shilling that I know of at this time. There is an especially nice piece minted in 1992 as a25 ecu with Elizabeth II likeness. Here is a pic of the coin in question:

Any suggestions on methods of search or cautions to be alert to in this series? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Rest in Peace

No suggestions Old Dan, but it is a beautiful design.

I'll have to check my safety deporit box later in the week, but I think I have an English Crown or two with that design.

What a beautiful design to collect!

There are a lot of Gold Sovereigns(1871-1931) and half Sovereigns (1893-1918) with the design of St. George and the dragon, issued from Australia with "S" Sydney, "M" Melbourne, "P" Perth Mint marks.

This is an impressive series to collect. Way over my budget, LOL. Have you put your house up for sale yet? LOL.
What idea's do you have to try and limit this collection to a reasonable cost?

Right at this moment, I would say that was a better than 99% chance that this will be the coin and design that I will start collecting.

I appreciate the picture and was wondering if this coin just might be silver? I do know some silver coins with this design were minted, but no specifics on which ones.

Thank you for the information toast, being able to obtain these from a number of different countries was one of the selling points as far as I was concerned. I'll be asking a lot of questions in the future on these coins, so be prepared.
As for selling the homestead, I haven't really thought that much about it at this time. At this stage of life I'm sure as heck not trying to find a way of taking any of it with me, so why not spend it on the things that I fancy now, and enjoy life. I must admit, the wife may have other ideas, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I can always tell her that I'm buying as an investment, but I'm sure she would know I was blowing smoke.

My ace in the hole is IF this don't work out, I can always claim it was Terry's and Mike's fault.

Hey OdlDan.

No th ecoin I posted a picture of is not silver, it is copper-nickel.
Krause no. KM#880.
They don't even list a price for general circulated coins, only for prooflike & proof. So I don't even know if it is worth anything.
They are a very thick coin and has printing right around the edge.

Regards

Steve

Alternatively, if gold is too expensive, you can start off with cheap Russian copper, although I must warn that high grades of such WILL cost!

These are large scales of St. George slaying the dragon, but it's more often depicted on the crest of the Double-headed eagle.

Of course, if you want gold coins of such, the cheapest would be the last Tsar era of Nicholai II. :)

Well, I can see right now this is one set of coins that I will have to keep my wife from viewing too often!

Thanks to Sir Steve (Knight #23) I just had to have one of the coins he showed. I don't believe it is in as good a shape as his is in, but then it's the first coin in the series that I will be collecting and as such will be a very special coin. Here is a pic;
