Just got this in my change when I got my coffee this morning. Sorry about the quality of the pictures. My old setup retired itself awhile back & I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.

I do not think it is a DDO. The 4 took a hit,the 8 looks normal.

Well evidently you can't tell by the pictures but it didn't take a hit. I have exactly what they have here you can't see it on the 8th in my picture but I can see it under magnifying glass. And I have the die markers. Plus mine has some Die Deterioration going on

I agree that this isn't the 1984-D Doubled Die DDO-001. I can see why you think it is, but the location of the mint mark is not a match for a coin struck with the 002-obverse die.

I did this animated Photoshop overlay of your image and the picture found on Variety Vista's web page for the 1984-D DDO-002. Your coin isn't showing the other splits and increased width on the date, but once you verify that the mint mark is in a different location, it rules out any possibility of a match.

I was going to mention that as well. On the tail of the 9 in the example you provided shows very clearly the split serif. on the Coin you have and are presenting does not, it is very narrow and ends in a single fine point. Also the 4 did take a hit, notice the curve of what you think is doubling, the example you provided shows the doubling on the right side of the 4's upright is straight all the way down to the crosslet.

The DD has to be there first, markers mean nothing if you don't have the DD. They are just a way to confirm the DD.
