here is a coin, found while "roll searching", a bank box of cents. probably the only odd thing is that I reside in south Florida. although there are many Canadians - who live here part time or all year long, a coin this old, and in fairly good condition, is probably fairly rare - around here. since I know very little about Canadian coins - grading or value - input or comments are appreciated. thanks.

That's a pretty good find for circulation because it's a lower mintage coin (3.8M for '31 vs 21.3M for '32)
As to grade, the pic is a bit small to be certain...but I think it grades as least F12.

That is a nice find. Even in Canada, it is unusual to find a pre-1937 coin like that. It is relatively rare.

For that series (King George V) in VG to F condition.
The 1920, 1921, 1928, 1929 and 1932 to 1936 pennies are the most common and are worth less than 50 cent each.
1922 to 1926 are the rarest pennies ranging from 5 to 30 dollars each depending on the year.
1927, 1930 and 1931 are in the middle of the scale in terms of rarity and are worth 2 to 3 dollars each.

I find American coins up here often in my roll searching.
I find about 10 Wheat pennies out of every 2000 pennies I go through.
A few months back I even found a 1895 Indian head. That was a pleasant surprise

Yes, the 1931 is one of the semi-keys of the small cent series. Maybe they're all in Florida!

I have similar luck finding cool US cents here in Canada. I'm batting a bit less than 10 per 2000, though - more like 4-6 per box. But I've found only one pre-George VI coin in roll searching: 1929 1 cent.

Talk about coincedence, I went through a batch of coins yesterday.
It started off very badly. My dime rolls were extremely picked over, no American coins and nothing below 2001. When I got into the nickels and pennies thing started getting interesting. First, I found a 1935 nickel. I seldom find any nickels with George VI on them, never mind George V. And things got even better with the pennies, I found a 1930 penny in very fine condition (all the crown beads were intact).

I think the US has some hot-spots of key/scarce Canada coins.
For instance, I found a bunch of 1949 "A to denticles" cents at 2 local dealers here in California.
