I recently found a great place for me to score some foreign coins...the bank! They have a coin machine, and occasionally they toss rejected coins into the waste basket beside it. Many times, they are Canandian, but I've amassed decent sized collection of about 20 coins from various places. For convienience, I will onlyl post one coin per topic.

This particular one looks middle eastern, possible one of the Muslim countries.

I hope so too. I've found other things too, like a 1$ Foxwood Casino Token.

Pakistan, 1 Rupee

I've heard that banks throw away foreign coins, but my bank claims ignorance...

Thank you Wheatiefan. I never would have guessed it was a rupee. I have a coin that actually SAYS 1 rupee on it, but it doesn't look like that.

I forgot to photograph the reverse. I'm so embarrased. Also: horrible lighting, I'm sorry.

This IS also a rupee, but from India. I see no mintmark, so it has been struck at the Calcutta Mint. On the other side there's the Asoka column.

I would love to get a set of those coin measuring thingies in your pics.

Where did you get something like that, and was it designed for coins?

I like the fact that you can put coins in that one and then photograph them.

What would you call that?

I just tried googling without success.
