Hello everyone! First time posting here and was looking for some info on some quarters I found.

At first I thought it might be some sort of toning error but then I saw some "Ghost comet" quarters elsewhere and couldn't tell if this was related.
Also strange the the obverse has the weird blotches on it as well.
I have almost a full roll of quarters that look exactly like this one so I'm curious what's going on. Thanks everyone!

Well, it does appeared to be slightly toned, and a possible strike through just above the motto (if that mark is incuse - is it?)
Can you post up some close-up images?

The blotches of discoloration. Especially around the "E Pluribus Unum" and to the left of the head on reverse.

If you have a full roll the same, it can't be an error, an error is usually a one off
that happens during the striking of coin and cannot change the colour.
Looking at the two coins you supplied, they are both slightly different so they
have toned either post strike or prestrike.
That looks like damage above the motto.

What do you mean by blotches? I think we need close up pictures with arrows. I think I see finger prints or a couple marks between head and united that looks like maybe a small clash or hit marks next to M on unum. Thanks for sharing, sorry I can not help you better.

The obverse looks like it may have been Struck Through Oil or Grease with some metal debris mixed into it. It might sell for a couple of bucks on ebay, if you can find the right bidder.

The zig-zag mark next to E PLURIBUS UNUM looks like a contact mark (maybe from another reeded coin?) so, I think it's Post Mint Damage. The toning may have been caused by the oil or grease from the strike through, but it doesn't add anything here.

The second coin seems to have a fingerprint just behind Sally Ride's head and another at the end of the word AMERICA. Colorful toning can add value, but the toning seen here isn't going to add any value to the coin.

You may want to buy some gloves and try to handle your coins only by the edges. Contact with the oils on your fingers and hands can cause unwanted fingerprints that, once they become visible, cannot be removed.

It's interesting that you have so many coins with the same look. Do you mean that all of the coins have the same patches on the obverse, or just the same toning?
