Has anyone seen duplicate serial numbers on what seems to be original rice paper pieces? Do you think these are old counterfeits or possible errors? Unless I am looking at these wrong; the serial numbers are the exact same. $20 1862 T20. One has "3" and one has a "2" under the word Twenty. Is it just two separate print plates with the same serial? I am confused. Any opinions or have you seen this before?

Here is the back. These were included with multiple authentic CSA notes. These two were the only odd balls out of the group.

IF same S/N Likely fake. You need larger pics with close-ups of the S/N to evaluate.

These are closer ups of the signatures. They appear to be similar, but slightly different and not an exact copy. I'm confused on why a counterfeiter of the time (it's old thin rice paper notes) would have used to separate plate number on the note.

Thanks for the pics. Having that, I think whoever assigned the S/N simply lost count. Not sure if there is any added value to these, but if I owned them I would submit to PMG as a pair and see if they come back authentic.

I am guessing these are both authentic. I have three North Carolina obsolete $2 notes with all the same serial numbers. They were just printed on different plates. It has become a challenge for me to try to find all of the serial number 7's from the different plates for this series.

I do think they are really large serial numbers and I am unsure if CSA notes used different plates. I would think they would have but this is not my area of expertise.

I agree with the above comment on sending them in to be graded.

The speculation in the previous answers are confusing the matter.

These notes come from the same sheet. That sheet was printed with a single plate. All the notes on the sheet were given the same serial number and the notes are differentiated by the position number (2 and 3).

I, for one, did not know that.

They should fit together if you put the 2 on top of the 3. The tail in the signature should also line up.

This is the first I have heard of this for CSA notes. Interesting, but it is probably not true for all confederate issues. Packs occassionally come on the market, and the ones I've seen all have sequencial serial numbers. I don't recall ever seeing any uncut sheets, but they probably exist.
