Went through my bank drive-through this morning and got $50 in One's to look through today. I got nine of these new bills with sequential serial numbers. They range from L 48888482 D to L48888474 D. Would appreciate any thoughts on these. Four in a row can sell for around $4 or so on The Bay. I've heard something about 8's considered 'lucky' in Asia but not sure. I understand these aren't game-changers or great Fancy Serial Numbers but just wondered if anyone could give any insight or advice. Thank you.
You should have gotten two more singles, if in sequential order the next bills should be 488884483 & 488884484. The last would have been just 4's & 8's, not a true binary but possibly some interest to someone?
I can't see much value in them. There are thousands of 4 consecutive numbers in every series. You mention that ebay sells them for $4.00, don't you mean they are asking $4.00. You see many coins and bills on ebay where the seller has made up false names or information to try to sell to an unsuspecting buyer.
The last 3 are 5 of a kind (8s) (with 4 in a row and a pair on all 3) should sell to casual collectors separate or all 3 together for at least a small premium as they are also lucky 8s. 4 in a row are common finds and while they also may sell for a small premium (such as in this case since you have a series of them and they are lucky 8s) its really not considered very collectible. It should be noted that its only when you get to a 7 of a kind/7 in a row or a full 8 of a kind to be where the serious collectors start jumping in with interest and condition in those cases also matters. A 7 of a kind (8s) $5 in very high grade graded by PMG recently sold for $600 believe it or not.
Well even though I'm not a bill collector I would take those one Dollar bills withe the 4 consecutive 8's and use them to light your cigarettes or cigar . Sorry no premium no extra value .
Good question @Coinfrog. The 5 of a kind is just far less desired by serious collectors than a 8 of a kind (solid) or 7 of a kind/7 in a row and that is because those bills are much more rare to come across. A 8 of a kind is found only 1 in 11 million while a seven in a row is about 1 in 555,000 so its not often you will see people finding these. That does not mean that the others are always only worth face value however in all cases. https://www.coolserialnumbers.com/H...lNumbers.pdf
Some casual collectors might also buy 6 of a kind/6 in a row for their collections, such as if it had also lucky numbers in it but serious collectors would not typically buy those as they would be hard to resell such as to a dealer or other serious collectors so its just not a good 'investment' type of buy. 5 of a kind/5 in a row are somewhat common but yet still bought and collected by some casual collectors, as well as collectors who like lucky 8s. It is likely only the very inexperienced buyers or those who are not into value may just like and collect single quad (4 of a kind) since these will come up quite often if you look regularly- people can collect whatever they want! Whether its worth the time to list and sell them for the slight premium over face is up to the individual seller. There are also bidiots out there who dont know anything and you should never target them with false claims of value as this is ripping people off.
