I've been wondering around ebay, and came across some $1 dollar notes. somerton/stone but there doesn't seem to be anything in the Thirteenth Edition of Greg Mcdonlds "Australian Coins & Bank Notes" So I was wondering If he has lefted other signatures and dates out, If anyone knows the complete list for $1 and $2 notes, could you list these, and the types, last prefixs etc, if you wouldn't mind

Sorry it's not a coin questions, but I couldn't find a better place that i'd rather ask.

Hello and welcome to the forum Dags.

Moderators may want to move this thread to Australian banknotes.

In response dags, there was no somerton/stone signiture.

You have a johnstone/stone or knight/stone. The Mcdonald guide is spot on with banknote signitures.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
lars

Yeah sorry about that, after I posted I looked around a little further and found the bank note section.

Well whoever posted on ebay must of got it wrong, was wondering why it wasn't in the book. Also I see that they have 1982 $1 note, with johnston/stone, is this also a mistake, ?

While I'm here I may as well to continue to ask a couple of questions.

What is a OCR-B thread, and a gothic thread.

Also so the book is right, that's all the $1 and $2 notes which where made. none through other years etc ?
Thanx

I am no expert on banknotes, I will left one of our resident banknote exoerts hep you out.

The little I know comes from Greg Mcdonald's book, which is spot on.

G'daye dags, if you look in gregs book it explains the difference between the two styles of serial number lettering as follows:

"To distinct serial number fonts were used in the printing process during the production of the now obsolete paper notes. The type of font can have a dramatic effect on the value of the note. The original GOTHIC style was used and later OCR-B style was introduced
for the $2, $5, $10, $20 and $50 issues"

There are a couple of examples also shown

Thread you refer to was a metallic security thread in the paper of the note. Some signatures it was in the centre of the note but this became a wear point so the thread was moved an inch to the left.
