When purchasing Silver - NOT coins

If the purchase price was the same

Would you purchase Bars or Rounds?

Do you feel one is easier to store than the other?

If you purchase Silver would you only purchase it from the Country you are in - i.e. Australia, Canada, England or U.S.A. etc.

Or do you like myself feel that 1 oz of silver + 1 oz of silver,

There is a separate discussion of Fractionals so I will leave that alone.

I have not purchased any bars as of yet. But I feel government issued bullion 1oz coins are the way to go. They are very liquid. The premiums can be more BUT a large silver bar might be harder to sell. Buying bars seem to have less up front premiums. The 10oz bars look appealing. I read somewhere depending on your jurisdiction that certain types of silver purchases aren't reported.

I have a mix of rounds and bars, most of my bars are 10 oz, a few 1 kilo. For stacking it's cheaper per oz to buy multiple oz bars. For 1 oz I prefer rounds, easy to store in tubes. 1 oz bars vary in size, length/width from mints, more difficult to find rectangle plastic holders for them that fit.

I have a mix of 1 oz generic rounds and 1 oz government issues. I prefer governments though they have higher premiums. For about two years I haven't bought USA silver eagles, premiums are crazy high. I live in USA. I really like the Britain Britannia with all its security features. Seems premiums are way up on most bullion so it's good to shop for sales. I'm looking forward to checking out black friday sales.

I have almost exclusively purchased rounds vs. bars. The few bars that I have are connected (via design/theme) to rounds that I also have in my collection.

I think my preference comes from years of collecting coins and medals, the vast majority of which are, historically, round vs. any issue with the bars themselves. An ounce of silver is the same in either form, but the familiarity with "round" for many collectors likely pushes them in the same direction when it comes to bullion.

I'm probably 70% rounds to 30% bars in my collection. I like a little of both. I also tend to stick with government issued rounds.

I prefer bars. For me they're easier to store.

I prefer rounds if the price is the same. The designs are more interesting to look at. Storage is the same to me as I put rounds in a plastic tube.

I should have doe this as a poll
It looks like the favorites are
Legal Tender Coins i.e. Silver Eagles
Followed by silver Rounds then followed by Bars.

There also seems to be a consensus That One (1) oz coins and rounds are more popular
than larger weight rounds an bars. (I expect it is price)

and the winner for easiest to store is bars - but I might question that

any other thoughts?

I only purchase anything in cash - never had a credit card.- never been scammed.
That means I can only purchase over the counter, in the country in which I live.

The only bullion purchase I have ever made was AU $10,000 in Canadian Platinum Maple Leafs.

If buy any more bullion, it will probably in the form of one kilo cast silver bars. These are ultrasonically tested to ensure there is not a base metal core in them.
Although one kilo proof silver coins exist, that does not necessarily make them a pure bullion investment, because the premiums would be much higher.

The leading bullion dealer in Australia from where I purchased the Pt Maple Leafs
do not deal in silver rounds that do not come from a World recognized, government controlled Mint, either for buying or selling, because it lowers the possibility of dealing in fake product.
So the option of bars vs rounds is not available to me.

Kilo bars take up less storage space in a small safe than one ounce bars or rounds.

Reason I stick with 1 oz coins is I can purchase a few at a time with out large expenditure.

t would do me good to discipline myself and save up for a Kilo or two.
The only downside I see is if we ever had to use the silver for trading it would be easier to use 1oz coins vs a Kilo

Mostly rounds. Generic and government issue. Kilos and 10oz bars as well. From all over the world.

Silver would never be used for trading ever again.
Now, silver is just like shares, You buy now, you sell later, hopefully for a profit.
Except you get to own something tangible, in between the buy and the sell.
