My mum recently asked me to find out about an old US dollar that was in her mums coin collection. I am not very good with coins so could someone please give me some details about it and what it is worth? The picture is below. Also, she has some old silver French coins as her mother was French. Does anyone know of any forums that could identify and value these coins? Many thanks.

What you have is a Silver American Eagle Bullion Coin. It is not for circulation, it is meant as an investment in silver. Technically, it is a coin and has a face value of $1 but it contains one troy ounce of silver so it is worth much more than $1 The Silver Eagle carries a premium over the spot price of silver so it is worth about $18 currently.

Well, if it was a proof strike it would be worth $100+20~50 because there were only about 400k that year.

Since you already know how to post pics, why not post pics of the French ones?

Welcome to the forum. I just bought a 93 Eagle along with a couple of others to finish my collection and it ran me at $18 at my local coin shop.
