Well, TPG got me good on this one, but upon further research now I am wondering what I really have. They claim it's a business strike, cleaned, AU details, so a waste of my time and money. The more I look though it might be a proof, the reverse lines below shield indicate so. If I am correct in 1885 the same die was used for proof and business. In any case I feel compelled to crack it out and get another opinion. Your input is greatly appreciated!

Understand your dilemma, but it's very difficult to evaluate this coin from your images.

ive owned a fair number of business strike Seated coins with mirror surfaces and partial wire rims. I'm not enough of an expert on those to tell you how to tell the difference. the dies were polished, proof dies struck business strikes. cracks were ground out and the dies were refinished. stuff like that. there are a lot of really well struck proof like Seated coins out there. I dont know enough to tell you anything about your coin though.

Looks like an AU-58 details, cleaned. Not seeing a proof here.
