The 1799 is a rarity all in its own. The 1799/8 is even more so. This coin however does not seem to look like the usual 1799/8 but doesn't look like just an 8 or 9 either. Could this be another variation of the 9/8? Or possibly I was wrong altogether and I'm looking at just an 8 with a bit of seeing whatever I want maybe? Not real sure on this one. Any help would be appreciated as usual.

i havent positively identified it yet but I can say with certainty that this is not a 1799. on a 1799 the the T in liberTy would be counterclockwise of its location here. the right edge of the T aligns with the brow lock on all three 1799 varieties.

edit to add:

im fairly certain its a 1798. I think it is one of the varieties in the 160-170 range but I dont know. 161 and 162 seem most similar so far.

the stems and how they point to the U and the A, the highest leaf under the second S in stateS and the brow locks relation to the T in liberTy combine to rule out all of the 1796 and 1797 varieties. also most of the 1798s.
