The same seller had a few other listings of high grade 5 kopeks of that era that all brought top dollar and then some, but nothing like that one. What gives? Report this Post to the Staff

january1may Pillar of the Community Russian Federation 5174 Posts	Posted 11/24/2022 03:09 am The bottom right 5 kopek, the one from 1842, is not a Russian Empire coin, but a pattern issue for Poland, so rare that Numista doesn't have a photo. I guess the buyers thought they were getting a rare and valuable pattern mixed in with (relatively) normal coins. I'd be doubting that authenticity myself... There were several listings from this seller that brought big money, but this one was the most incredible: https://www.ebay.com/itm/255791937619 I don't know anything about these coins, but if those grades and prices are even remotely accurate, it's full of uncirculated coins grading 65 and above and just a quick summation of the prices I saw would put that collection at around $25k. Who knows how far off that actually is. If you like Russian Empire coinage, this looks like the find and work of a lifetime! If all of that was legitimate, perhaps that pattern is as well. The listing shows flips which may, or may not have a coin in each of them. Even for an honest seller, showing them as a lot like this makes them almost impossible for a buyer to show up. Would have a better chance with a specialist numismatic public auctioneer, with the best of commercial reputations, and the lot more accurately described, with far more detail.
