Hi,
Fairly new to the world of coin collecting, and have inherited my fathers fairly large coin collection.
Just cataloging them at the moment, as they were all over the place prior to his passing a few years ago, and was wondering would any one know of a service in the Sydney metro area that would grade and appraise them?.
Any help or being pointed in the right direction would be absolutely fantastic.
Thanks in advance :)

All the Sydney Dealers would give you a valuation on the collection but to have each Coin graded and valued would be a very expensive exercise,in most cases more than the Coin is worth.
Buy a recent edition of Renniks or McDonalds guides and go from there,it costs you nothing but time, also ebay is a good guide to current values.
Good luck with it.

I believe what Basil has suggested is the best way to go.
Such a process may well increase your own interest in numismatics.

If, by this process, you have identified some potentially valuable coins, you may wish to take those to a professional dealer. With (say) less than 5 coins, the fee would be much less, and you will almost certainly get an offer to buy them

Lets hope you become a serious coin collector instead, and keep them. They were your father's coins, now provide a base for you build on.

Thanks Basil and Sel-69l, for your replies, just about finished cataloging the decimal ones and yet to do the pre decimal.
But the more I do this, the more enjoyable it's becoming, so you never know I might jump on the collector wagon &
