Hi all,

This landed among a bunch of mixed coins. At first I thought it was a newer coin but now I'm not sure if it's even a coin. Date is 1995. Made from aluminium. Diam. 17.5

Any ideas?

@keith12

That's the coin. In my stupidity I had Non-circulating coins unchecked on the search. I am wondering why this coin was minted to begin with, and over 20 years?

It was probably minted to be included in mint sets. 10 satang, 1/10th of a baht, hasn't been enough money to do anything with for a long time.

It's my understanding that Thailand mints "circulation" 10 satang coins, but banks in Thailand refuse to give them out to the public except for exceptional circumstances eg. if a customer is closing their account, they will get paid out to the nearest satang. But you can't just go in and order a bagful of 10 satang coins. So in that sense, they aren't really "circulation coins". They remain in the banking system, where physical cash is still used to conduct intra-bank and inter-bank business.
