I just checked out the price of a single one ounce American Eagle at my favorite dealer. It's $1,997. If you buy in bulk in can drop to $1,982. Spot gold is currently $215 less. This seems a bit excessive for a mark-up. One thing I don't know is what their buy price is. If their buy price is say $1,925, then not so bad I guess.
What do you think would be a fair buy sell spread for this coin would be?

There's a lot that goes into a "fair" price and it seems to me that it depends on the dealer and what their costs are.

If you're interested, then here's a bullion dealer that routinely posts buy and sell prices on mainly US bullion

https://www.youtube.com/@vermillion...rises/videos

His last video indicated +7% on the sell side and +3% on the buy side for 1 ozt AGE. Not sure what he uses for spot price (it might be Kitco ask) so you really have to call to get an exact quote.

My go to site for bullion is Bullion Exchanges. Here is a link to today's AGE sell page.https://bullionexchanges.com/1-oz-a...-random-year

I've been buying from them for a decade or so, and every transaction has been perfect. Note: the prices are quite a bit lower than your "favorite dealer".

As William Munny says, "Deserves got nothin' to do with it".

It is what it is and it's up to us to shop around and find the safest transaction with the lowest premium.

This must be a recent blip in the market because last I checked the highest premiums always seemed to be with Buffalos.

Checking today with Liberty on ebay, AGEs are +165, Buffalos +155 and Krugerrands +125.
