Hello Everyone! This is supposed to be a 1788 Massachusetts Cent, variety 6-N. It weighs about 139 grains; Standard is 157.5. I have my suspicions...

Well Oldgroughyguy I have good news and bad news. Maybe really no news at all. Your 1788 copper Massachusetts coin could be a counterfeit. That's the bad news. Good news if it is, then they do have modest prices put on them. The first thing is the weight of the coin is off. Also check to see if you can find on the edge of the coin there should be a seam where the two halves of the coin were electrotyped together. These pieces were always very worn. Here are a few links you can check up on. Hope I am right for your sake. Good luck.

SaturnD51: Thank You! Yeah, not enough metal to fill the mold, and it's in a "die state" that doesn't exist. You can see the injection site on the rim above the Eagle's head, among a few markers. The Good News is, that contemporary ctft Massachusetts copper coinage is pretty rare, cast or off-Mint

Details seem too sharp for something of that age. I'm skeptical.

Coinfrog: I'm a little puzzled by your statement. Here are a couple of crudely cast 3rdC BCE coins with great details
