Thad, that's a beauty!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

one of your better finds BadThad. I think it has a good shot at 66RD. I dont think it can make 67 even thought the reverse is decently struck there are just too many very minor ticks

further analysis, for future reference, I found a high number of MS66 graded coins that have tick marks on the shoulder similar to yours. again the 1960-80 LMC's this seems to be fairly common and some if not all of it can be attribute to the die. the marks above ONE CENT also appears on many of them. the PCGS coin on their site as the template for 67RD also contains some shoulder marks

we need to keep this in mind going forward with these years

MS-65 + RD the chatter would hold it back they have number pops to protect and do so mighty stingy. Reverse pops! the obverse just has to much tiny little die action marks for that clean ultra grade look.

Very well stated! if one reviews MS-67 coins from the sixties posted by PCGS, they would be surprised as to what PCGS considers a ms-67 coin.
