With the pandemic, retirement, and the generally screwed-up state of the world these last couple of years, coin collecting dropped off my personal radar for nearly the last two years.
My enthusiasm had been less-than tepid, which is probably an understatement. Anyhow, I'm starting to get my interest back, so I just wanted to get a general feel for the Canadian coin market these days. Anyone care to voice their opinion on prices, availability and so on?
It's good to be back and it's time to get reacquainted with the community. I hope that all is well with all of you.

Coinsandcanada.com is a great place to begin, I feel. There is a place there to change approximate values to the US dollar among other currencies. This site will also show you major varieties of all the coins if they have any.

It depends on what segment of the market you are interested in I think. Talking to dealers inventories are thin right now for good coins, particularly higher end stuff. The pandemic seems to have created a lot of demand and supply has been stagnant as there were no shows for a couple years. You would expect as the shows get going again that this would ease up, but so far that's not the case.
If you're watching auctions the prices realized, again particularly for higher end and relatively rare items, they seem to still be moving up. It's hard to buy the really good stuff unless you are willing to pay more than you would likely expect to.
I think mid-grade is still relatively easy to come by and prices are more reasonable and more consistent as a percentage of trends.
Patience is still the key to filling holes in high end collections! Welcome back. :)

As a fellow pandemic coin victim welcome back. I was an avid collector until the early 1980's when life got in the way....for about 4 decades. Then the pandemic and the isolation we all experienced and my old circular friends caught my eye. Been hooked back into it ever since. As for the availability of Canadian it really depends on how deep your pockets are and what you collect. There's been some gorgeous high end pieces available recently on a couple of Canadian auction sites. But, like others I find it can take a very long time to find what you're looking for. It recently took me well over a year to find a 1900 Vicky 50C piece in decent condition. All part of the fun though! Good luck.

Like others, I collected more in the past two years than previously. Don't have my finger on the pulse of the Canadian market but like to track a few keys on Heritage and the prices seem very strong lately.

Welcome back ! The last two years ( 2020&2021) for us have been nothing short of wonderful as far as sales go . Most of the sales were US or World Coins as that is the majority of our focus online ! Good material sells well when you can find it . Junk always sells . The mid part of the market especially CANADIAN..not so much . One observation , I really think CCN TRENDS is way too low on premium Canadian , ie properly graded with excellent eye appeal . An example , we have been trying to put together a set of CANADA Sovereigns 1908C to 1919C in solid MS 63 original skin , with very little luck . Even offering over trend Price on the better dates finds you nothing to buy .

For older senior shut-ins, when health problems catch with you, especially when it is snowy outside, coin collecting and the study of them is the perfect escape to to keep the brain active. So, be justanothercoinaddict, (like me).

Canadian coin market in my opinion is still in the crapper. But dealers of course are saying 'it's wonderful' My main reason.... Prior to 2008 (yes, that far back) dealers were selling tons of coins at 80% of trends and buying 'sight unseen' from me, ICCS coins at 60% of trends. Now.....dealers don't even want to buy ICCS for inventory and the ones that do, offer 35%. That tells me the trends buy/sell percentages have dropped at least 25% (60%-35%=25%). Yet dealers are still asking 80% to 90% so nothing sells. A more 'active' percentage to get the market moving would be dealer selling price at 55% of trends (which of course no dealer would agree to). My proof for these numbers? ebay 'completed items' prices are generally around 50% of trends. Prior to 2008, ebay items would sell at 70 to 80% of trends for commons and ms65 coins (KGVI quarters for example) would get at least 100% and higher because there were a ton of cllectors chasing these grades.......not now!!). and I forgot to add......Welcome back!!
