Need help. Coin is certified, but I see different. Where is the threshold for FS?

steps look a little weak in places, so I assume they become more defined in hand when rotating the coin through various angles

But I read that the definition for FS is a s follows: Complete steps without mare or interruption. Now I have to go back and look again. Not important, just trying to "swim" through the sea of information. Thank you.

Just shows you TPGs can be wrong. Buy the coin, not the grader or holder.
Rest in Peace

That would be a NGC slab. right?

and I'm really not seeing 5FS here, a 4FS at most - unless they are counting the very top where the columns are as well.

Photos are too weak for me to say for sure. You have the coin in hand - are all of those step lines fully defined all the way across?

I see 5 full steps and looks like the grader saw them also. PCGS doesn't make a habit of giving 5 FS designations on sliders.

The BU 1950-D nickels were saved in rolls as they knew the mintage was going to be low that year. So there are a lot of these nice nickels available.

Dearborn: Yes, NGC holder. I wonder if they count the 5th step that starts on one end and stops on the other end. This is a 4 step to me.

I was told when trying to determine FS to "row your boat."

Look down the rows of steps from one end. It is a little easier to make the determination and see any interruptions in the steps.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
