I'm curious to see what CA comes back with. FYI nickelsguy, there are plenty of provisions in the CC that don't get enforced these days. This would be one of those, however I do agree that it doesn't look good for a reputable dealer, as I believe this one to be, to auction off this stuff.

I totally agree wallyb! We lose more collectors due to death than we gain with youth every year and all must help prevent any new collector from getting scammed and dealers should be at the leading edge of that.....not potentially enabling it.

while I 100% agree , I never want to see a potential collector be ripped off, is this really any different, than the embellished
5$ silver maples, they are essentially defaced, with the added gold enhancements from secondary people or the added colour scenes. these simple added accessories can easily double the price, if not more.

Plated coins have duped many collectors in the past. ALTERED coins are illegal in Canada. Even though CA states they are plated that does not remove the liability of them. The attempt to resell them as off metal errors is very common. Neophyte collectors are generally most fooled by them and may/have caused them to spend recreational funds on other safer items leaving numismatics. The hobby can not afford that. The dealer here paid less than melt for sure and is trying to make a profit on it. I find this typical and lacks any common sense! I find the responses interesting and I thank all for them.

Are they illegal? What about those coloured Canada Silver Maple Leaf Coins from Germany that sell on ebay. Those coins have been sold on ebay for years. Aren't 3rd party coloured coins also "altered"?
