Curious on everyone's opinion on this coin.

I would say F12 though the reverse might be closer to VG10.

Yeah I'm in at VG-F as well with a leaning towards VG. That reverse is pretty rough. It's not impossible they would say VG Details on it.

Seems to be a solid consensus around VG - F range. The real challenge is what PCGS said. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that they put it in the VF range.
I have an 1873 Newfoundland (obv 1) 5c that PCGS graded at VF-35 (it's pictured in the POP review on the PCGS website in case anyone's interested). It quite definitely belongs in the F12-15 range and it looks a lot like this guy. I paid considerably *less* than the trend price for an F15 because the seller was unable to sell it at VF35, which I don't think you could get for less than $3,000 and, in the right auction, much more.
Of course, the number of us weirdos out there buying higher end NFLD coins is small and we're generally pretty well educated about this sort of thing. Relatively few of us are likely to be star-struck by an obviously mis-graded coin. Few but not zero. PCGS has many virtues but, as someone else here said a few weeks ago, they struggle with lower grade Canadian coins. Buyer beware.
Anyway, looking forward to the big reveal from @purelywasted.

PCGS came up with VF20, not sure how they got there. I was sitting somewhere between a 12 and 15. The reverse definitely seems like a lower grade. I have been using the saskatoon coin club photo grade guide as my reference point. How accurate are people thinking on that? Here are the example pics I was using.

I love the Saskatoon photo series...some serious scholarship there. Though there's room for caution in that all of those grades are PCGS. As we seem to keep learning, PCGS has its strengths, but they've also got a few blind spots.

I'd ask for my money back. No way that's a VF.
Its a shame to have it graded so terribly. Makes one wonder why bother.

Looks VG-8 to me. The reverse is a bit weak.

I didn't submit it for grading, so no money to ask for. Nor did I purchase for vf-20 prices. Closer to vg10-f12.
Wonder if their guarantee would apply here. Seems off to me.thanks for the comments all.

Glad to hear you didn't pay for grading.
If it were mine I'd break it out and appreciate it for a little while!
