Hi all,

Thanks again for help with IDs on the previous coins.

I have another coin that I suspect is islamic but not 100% certain.

Also, as a rough estimate, on coins of that age, what tolerance was there for weight differences? Am never sure when searching zeno what figure above and below the actual weight should be entered. I want to limit the results but not exclude a potential target.

Thanks

Weight - 3.61g
Diam. 13.6-14.2mm
Comp = copper

This is Sultans of Delhi, D450 - 3.6g - "Coin of 32 rati"

Similar to D448 a Tanka (9g) if no pictures on Zeno again.
The last three posted have been more unusual types, which is probably why there are few pictures of them, rather than the weight being out of tolerance.

Good ID, andyg

For medieval Indian coins, I generally search Zeno with a tolerance of plus or minus 0.2 grams. If there are no relevant hits, this could be expanded up to maybe 0.5 g. If there are too many hits, this could be tightened to 0.1 g.

As for the general question, there was generally more tight weight control on gold and silver coins (and in the case of Dehli, billon as well) than for coppers. In the earlier Islamic series, the weight and fineness of the gold dinar and the weight of silver in the dirham were fixed by Sharia law, so they only changed when the caliphate faced dire economic circumstances. There were no regulations concerning the weight or composition of the copper fulus.

Thanks Seeker55, Sap and AndyG for the answers and coin ID! I will probably have a few more over the next few days if the coin ID gods are smiling upon me!
