Hi all,

Thanks for all the responses on my previous mystery coins. This latest one has me stumped. I can't see any classic arabic script so am hesitant to say it's Islamic. Nothing appeared in Zeno that I could find. Any pointers much appreciated. Thanks.

Weight = 9.1g
Diam = 17.3-17.5mm
Thickness = 4.8mm
Comp = Copper (maybe low billon)

It appears to be similar to caliphate coins of India. Do a google reverse image source and you'll see what I mean.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Sultans of Delhi - I think D706 (Tanka) but it's hard to make out as the scan is rather dark.
2nd image is also upside down which doesn't help :)

On careful examination (and with my copy of Goron/Goenka held upside down to compare with the second photo) I can confirm andyg's skillful attribution as D706. As described in GG, the script on this coin is in an unusual angular style.

Sultans of Dehli, Sikander Shah Lodi, tanka of 80 rati, no mint name, dates AH 900-922

Here are examples from Numista and Zeno
