I found someone selling this 1789 George Washington medal (not really a coin) but I can't seem to find my Red Book. I know it exists, but don't know if it's real or not. Anyone out there have one of is familiar with it?

I want to know if I should buy it from him.

Mike

Hi,

Looks like it is an Indian Peace medal via a quick spin on google.

Here are two links.

No idea about if it is real or not.

Indications are it's a Mint product. There's a guy on ebay selling them for $6.50 "Unopened Sealed in Mylar."

There's also another guy asking $150 for one.

I have also found this on the US Mint's site.

Two different sizes.

Thanks for the quick help. It's not silver plated or anything so I would assume it's a more modern repro. It's neat, but I think he wants $45 for it. A little too rich for me.

Yep, it's a mint medal. You don't usually see the three inch medal so it is probably the smaller size. Not too many years ago you could buy them direct from the mint for $1.35 they're up to $3.50 now. $45 is ridiculous. Even the 3 inch is only $38 from the mint.

i have no idea. I did a president report on jefferson in 5th or 6th grade (25 years ago). I think I had it then. either that or I got it on a visit to DC 15 or so years ago. sorry, not for sale.

I think you can find them on ebay for a few bucks every now and then.

UPDATE:
I think I know where I got mine. Went to Fort Clatsop about 20 years ago. I think I got it there. You can still find them for sale online. Mine is 1 1/4" copper plated. They have them available online for $5.95
