On those discovered coins basic we do not see the yellow, which click something in my mind. Also this green I see I do not like. Do someone try to clean without any knowledge of restoration? It is an "anonymous follis", of the type known as Class B (which depicts a cross on the reverse), and attributed to the reign of emperor Romanus III (AD 1028-1034). If you do a Google search for "Byzantine follis anonymous class B", and put "class B" in quotes, you should find numerous examples for sale, on ebay and elsewhere. Right now, coins in similar condition to yours are being offered for around $20 to $30. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff

The only thing I would add is that the orange-yellow debris in between some of the letters visible in your first pic is sometimes called a "desert patina". I wouldn't clean this coin, but rather put it into a 2x2 for storage.
