It may not be the most beautiful example in the world, but it only cost 20 cents. It has taken many years of searching to finally find this coin. I knew what it was as soon as I saw it, yet I still had to look about five times, check with a loupe, and finally compare to a normal '66 before I would believe it.

Actually, it cost a chicken and cheese sandwich. 20 cents was the change. The sandwich wasn't that good, but hey, I don't mind.

Hi, I have one of those coins. You mentioned you compared it to a 'normal' 1966 what are the differences?

G'day, congratulations. You succeeded because you kept up the hunt: "making your own luck". Stories like this encourage me to persist. I got an incuse millenium in change at the Golden Arches last year, AND my son enjoyed his ice-cream. Is our hobby great or what ?
Bargar: look at the figure two; look at the horizontal limb of the 2; now look at the upper surface of that limb; you'll see that this one is "wavy"; the vastly more common variety is straight. Peter

Okay, I see it now. I have the same 'wavy' coin. Got it in a bunch of change from a store here but didn't notice it until I got home and emptied my pockets.

from the description given, I don't believe that's the wavy variety... Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I think in the future I will take a picture of my item first then compare the 2 pictures side by side. I will chalk this up to a valuable lesson learned :)

G'day, Bargar & Chequer - you both reached the correct conclusion. The great thing about collecting coins from circulation is that - this coin only cost you 0.20; AND it's still worth 0.20.
I've always liked the 20-cent: I can't think of another coin that tries to depict the movement of water in this way ... as distinct from more conventional waves on Canadian Deux Voyageurs, or on "Britannia".
